How to Convert HEIC to JPG on iPhone (No App Needed)

You don’t need a computer — or any app from the App Store — to turn iPhone photos into JPGs. Here are the best methods built into iOS, the fastest way to convert many photos at once, and how to make your camera shoot JPG in the first place.

Method 1: Convert in Safari (fastest for many photos)

  1. Open convertheicto.com/jpg in Safari.
  2. Tap Choose photos and select the photos from your library. You can pick dozens at once.
  3. Wait a few seconds while they convert — on your phone, with nothing uploaded.
  4. Tap Save / Share and choose Save Images (or Save [number] Images) to add the JPGs to Photos. You can also send them straight to Mail, WhatsApp or Files.

This method keeps the date taken (so the JPGs sort correctly in Photos), removes location data by default, and offers PDF output too.

Method 2: The Files app’s Convert Image (iOS 16 and later)

  1. In Photos, select the photo(s), tap Share, and choose Save to Files. Pick a folder such as On My iPhone.
  2. Open the Files app and go to that folder.
  3. Long-press a photo → Quick Actions → Convert Image.
  4. Choose JPEG and a size (Original keeps full resolution).

The JPG appears next to the HEIC. To convert several at once, tap … (top right) → Select, choose the images, then tap … (bottom right) → Convert Image.

Method 3: Copy and paste into Files

A long-standing trick: in Photos, select photos and tap Share → Copy Photos. Then open Files, long-press inside a folder, and tap Paste. On many iOS versions the pasted copies are saved as JPG. If yours stay HEIC, use Method 2.

Method 4: Email it to yourself

When you attach photos from the Photos app to an email in Mail, iOS typically sends them as JPEG. Choose Actual Size when Mail asks about image size to keep full resolution. Handy for one or two photos; clumsy for more.

Method 5: A Shortcut (for repeated use)

If you convert often, build a shortcut once:

  1. Open Shortcuts and create a new shortcut.
  2. Add Select Photos (turn on Select Multiple).
  3. Add Convert Image and set it to JPEG.
  4. Add Save to Photo Album.

Run it, pick photos, and the JPGs land in your library.

Make your iPhone shoot JPG from now on

Go to Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible. New photos will be JPG; existing ones won’t change. You’ll use about twice as much storage — read How to turn off HEIC on iPhone for the trade-offs and a smarter alternative that only converts photos you transfer to a computer.

How to convert HEIF to JPG on iPhone

“HEIF” and “HEIC” refer to the same iPhone photos in practice (the details are in HEIF vs HEIC). Every method above works for both.

Converting a whole camera roll

For hundreds or thousands of photos, a phone isn’t the ideal tool. Use a Mac or PC instead — How to batch convert HEIC to JPG shows the fastest bulk methods, and Convert HEIC to JPG on Mac covers Finder’s built-in batch converter.
