If you already design in Canva, you can use it to turn an iPhone HEIC photo into a JPG or PNG. Canva lists HEIC/HEIF among its supported upload formats. Here’s how — and when a dedicated converter is the better tool.
How to convert HEIC to JPG in Canva
- Create a design at the size you want the photo to be. For a straight conversion, use Custom size and enter the photo’s pixel dimensions (for most iPhone photos, 4032 × 3024 or 3024 × 4032).
- Go to Uploads and upload your HEIC file.
- Click the uploaded photo to add it to the design, then right-click → Set image as background so it fills the page edge to edge.
- Click Share → Download.
- Choose JPG as the file type (or PNG — see below).
- Click Download.
How to convert HEIC to PNG in Canva

Things to know before using Canva for conversions
- It’s a design export, not a file conversion. Canva renders your design, so the output depends on the design size you chose. Pick the wrong size and the photo is cropped or scaled.
- Metadata is lost. The date taken, camera details and location aren’t carried over, so converted photos may sort incorrectly in your photo library.
- One at a time. Converting dozens of photos this way is slow.
- Your photo is uploaded to Canva’s servers.
- Quality controls for JPG downloads may depend on your plan.
