Why convert HEIC to BMP?
BMP stores pixels with no compression at all, which makes it trivial for software to read. That's why it's still asked for by older Windows programs, school and lab software, some digital photo frames, laser engravers and CNC tools, and hobby electronics like Arduino or ESP32 screens that have no room for a JPG decoder. If a program's “Open” dialog only lists .bmp, converting is the fix. Because nothing is compressed, size grows with every pixel — resizing to the target screen or device keeps files manageable.
How to convert HEIC to BMP
- Add your HEIC photos to the converter.
- Set a maximum size that matches your target — for example 1024 px for a photo frame, or 320 px for a small display module.
- Convert. Each photo becomes a standard 24-bit BMP that opens in Paint and every other bitmap-capable program.
- Download the BMPs, or grab them all in one ZIP (which also compresses them nicely for transfer).
Convert HEIC to other formats
- JPG HEIC to JPG Opens on every device, app and website.
- PNG HEIC to PNG Lossless — best for editing and design.
- PDF HEIC to PDF One document from one or many photos.
- WebP HEIC to WebP Smallest files for websites and blogs.
- GIF HEIC to GIF For old systems, forums and email signatures.
- AVIF HEIC to AVIF Next-gen format, about half the size of JPG.
- TIFF HEIC to TIFF Lossless for printing, publishing and archives.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my BMP file so large?
BMP stores every pixel as three raw bytes, so a full 12-megapixel iPhone photo becomes roughly 36 MB. Reducing the maximum size shrinks it fast: at 1600 px wide the same photo is about 5 MB.
Which kind of BMP does this create?
A 24-bit, uncompressed Windows bitmap with a standard BITMAPINFOHEADER — the most widely compatible variant, readable by Windows Paint, Photoshop, GIMP, Python's Pillow, and most microcontroller image libraries.
Does BMP support transparency or metadata?
Not in this widely compatible form. Any transparency is placed on white, and camera information and GPS location are not included. Wide-gamut iPhone colors are converted to standard sRGB so they look right without a color profile.
Is BMP better quality than JPG?
A BMP has no compression loss, so it's an exact copy of the decoded photo. On screen you won't see a difference from a high-quality JPG, though — choose BMP because a program requires it, not for quality.
My device won't display the BMP — what now?
Small displays and photo frames often need the image to match their exact resolution, so set the maximum size to the screen's longer side. Some microcontroller libraries only read 16-bit (RGB565) or 8-bit bitmaps; this converter produces the standard 24-bit kind, which you can then reduce with your device's own tools.
